Prioritize construction of sidewalks and spending the 8-million-dollar Robinson bequest (former councilmember) to the town for sidewalks—don’t just give it back.
Appreciate Maple Avenue is at its max traffic capacity, and has been for more than ten years, and prevent harm to the livability of our neighborhoods from cut-through traffic avoiding Maple Avenue
Residents don't want a repeat of the Maple Avenue Corridor or "MAC" zoning debacle, that yielded overly tall buildings out of place in Vienna (e.g., carwash center building shown above).
So we need to make certain the rewrite of our residential and commercial zoning code does not give away what makes Vienna special.
Renewal is a good thing, but we have to keep in mind the limitations that Maple Avenue at its traffic capacity, and our packed schools, create. Any new construction should not adversely impact our existing residential neighborhoods and small businesses. Change must be balanced, and must be done wisely.
Prioritize Parks
Prioritize the purchase and use of Town land for parks and sports fields. If the Town's plan is to add more residential along Maple Avenue, we need more parks.
Restore Beulah Road Park! Keep leaf collection, move industrial leaf mulching out of a residential neighborhood, and restore Beulah Road Park for its intended use as a park for our community. Sign the petition here.
Don't use our parks like garbage dumps. Improperly storing composting waste or leaf mulch waste in our parks is not appropriate because it increases the population of rodents and introduces leptospirosis and e. coli into our water shed. Move these operations to an appropriate designated location in the county.
The biggest complaint I hear from Vienna's residents is about water and sewer bill increases.
Vienna's water is more expensive than Fairfax county water.
And with more people working from home during the pandemic, our residents have been hit hard with usage and rate increases.
Residents need immediate relief from water and sewer rate increases. Rate increase should be capped for the next three years.
